The classes they run
“Our kids were originally enrolled at another academy in Walnut Creek, where we were first introduced to jiu jitsu and had the pleasure of meeting Coach Eduardo and Coach Emilie.”
“My favorite class is the women’s class on Saturdays—it’s supportive, fun, and perfect for beginners while still being valuable for more experienced practitioners.”
“They manage to keep the curriculum challenging and fun: plenty of time for serious drilling and sparring, and a little time for levity at the end as well.”

“I’ve trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu for 11 years across multiple states and even internationally, and this place is truly one of a kind.”

“Parking is easy, class times are convenient, and the coaches do an excellent job of teaching real techniques in a way that keeps students engaged.”
“The class does the warm ups together, running and standard individual movements (about 5 mins or so, enough to get the sweat going but not being gassed).”
“They are both exceptionally great with kids as well.”
From the reviews
Epica is everything you want in a jiu jitsu gym and more. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the intention behind the space, it’s beautiful, clean, welcoming, and clearly built with love for both the sport and the people.
I had an amazing experience today as a drop in to the 6 am group at Epica. It started with just a warm welcome from all of the members, a couple purples, 5-6 blues, 3 whites, and of course professor, everyone introduced themselves to me not necessarily the other way around with me going up to each of them.
My son (1st grade) is enrolled in Kids Jiu Jitsu at Epica. Coach Eduardo and Coach Emile are great with the kids! They manage to keep the curriculum challenging and fun: plenty of time for serious drilling and sparring, and a little time for levity at the end as well.
Epica Jiu Jitsu Academy is truly one of the best gyms in the Bay Area. I’ve been training Muay Thai with Coach Eduardo and Coach Emilia for over two years, and they are great! I recently started Jiu Jitsu in the All Women’s Class, and it has been such an empowering experience.
Your first muay thai class at Epica Jiu Jitsu Academy
Nervous about walking into a muay thai gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics on pads and bags — not fighting. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: shorts or athletic wear and a t-shirt; you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and hand wraps if you have them — many gyms lend gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves, wraps, a mouthguard, and shin guards. Sparring is optional and comes later, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
