Muay thai programs, and where to train each
"Muay thai class" isn't one thing. One gym down the street runs a gentle beginners' fundamentals class where nobody expects you to spar; another has kids' classes after school, a lunchtime fitness session that's all bags and pads and no contact, hard sparring on Friday nights, and one-on-one private lessons in between. The program decides who the class is for, how much contact is involved, and whether you leave having learned footwork or having gone a few rounds — so it's the first thing worth sorting out before you walk in. Each program below explains what it actually is and who it tends to suit, then links to gyms nationwide that run it, with maps and state-by-state lists. Brand new? Start with muay thai for beginners, then find a gym with a free trial or intro class to try one.
🧒 Kids Muay Thai
Structured, coach-led classes for children — discipline, coordination and confidence in a safe, controlled setting.
🌱 Beginner Muay Thai
The on-ramp to the art of eight limbs — fundamentals classes built for people who have never thrown a punch, where you learn the basics at a welcoming pace.
🏆 Fight Team
Competition training for amateur and aspiring fighters — the structured path for anyone who wants to test themselves in the ring.
🛡️ Self-Defense
Practical striking for real-world confidence — many people find muay thai's simple, effective techniques a strong self-defense foundation.
👤 Private Lessons
One-on-one coaching with a trainer — the fastest way to sharpen technique, build confidence, or train around a schedule that group classes don't fit.
🔥 Muay Thai Fitness
The cardio-and-conditioning side — heavy-bag rounds, pad work and drills for a serious workout, with no requirement to ever spar.
🥊 Sparring
Controlled, supervised practice with a partner — where technique becomes real, at whatever intensity you and your coach agree on.
💪 Women's Muay Thai
Women's classes and women-friendly rooms — a welcoming way into striking and fitness, whether the goal is confidence, conditioning or competition.
📘 Fundamentals
Technique-focused classes on stance, footwork and the core strikes — the building blocks every nak muay keeps coming back to.
✨ Teen Muay Thai
Classes built for teenagers — focus, fitness and a constructive outlet, bridging kids' and adult training.
🔓 Open Gym
Open-mat and open-gym time to drill, hit the bags and practice on your own schedule outside structured classes.
🤼 Clinch
The signature muay thai grappling range — neck control, knees and off-balancing that set the art apart from kickboxing and boxing.
Not sure which class to start with?
If you've never trained before, a class labelled beginner or fundamentals is the kind way in — technique first, at a pace that expects newcomers. Want the workout without the fighting? Muay thai fitness is bags, pads and conditioning, no sparring required. Enrolling a child, or training as a teen? See kids and teen classes. Want to learn fast or train privately? Private lessons are one-on-one with a coach. Ready for more? Sparring and the clinch are where the art comes alive, and a fight team is the path toward competition. Whatever you pick, all levels are welcome — you don't need to be fit to start, and it's always fine to rest when you need to.
