From the reviews
I have been attending CJJF McKinney for sometime now and I have to say it’s been an absolute pleasure. I was introduced to the Gym Coaches and members via a friend Chris, who also has attended for over a year. Since the beginning when I first started here it’s been a very open and welcoming community.
Just joined this November 2026, started in Propser and I attend the session here In McKinney, V is a phenomenal attendant and makes you feel very welcomed when joining. Every time I show up there is a great group and it makes me more eager to train and get better each time I show up on Tuesdays.
I’ve been training here for about two months now, and it’s been an amazing experience! The coach (Fretas) is truly outstanding — patient, knowledgeable, and motivating. The students are also incredibly friendly and supportive, making it such a great environment to learn and grow.
I can’t say enough good things about CJJF McKinney. From the moment we walked through the doors, we were met with kindness, patience, and a genuine love for teaching and supporting kids. My daughter Delilah was overwhelmed during her trial class — she was crying and asking to go home at the start.
Your first muay thai class at (CJJF) Caveirinha Jiu-Jitsu Family Academy - McKinney
Nervous about walking into a muay thai gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics on pads and bags — not fighting. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: shorts or athletic wear and a t-shirt; you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and hand wraps if you have them — many gyms lend gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves, wraps, a mouthguard, and shin guards. Sparring is optional and comes later, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
