From the reviews
Bottom line HIGH QUALITY Jiu Jitsu. I highly recommend Coastal to anyone in the area. Great structure to the training program, includes standup game as well. I’ve been to 3+ BJJ academies in the area this one is the best. They are military friendly with discounts as well as sudden deployments/ change in shift work.
When we moved out to Virginia Beach, my daughter and I checked out several places before settling on Coastal. Nestor is an excellent teacher and his classes for both kids and adults have a clear curriculum. He teaches to everyone's level, from white belt to black, amateurs to championship contenders.
This gym is a hidden gem of Virginia Beach. The level of Jiu Jitsu in this gym is inexplicable. I researched BJJ in Virginia Beach prior to coming here and coastal was one of the two places i settled on for training. Nestor is a great instructor who is down to earth and has a deep passion for all that is Jiu Jitsu.
I have spent the last two weeks in Virginia Beach traveling for work. From the moment I walked into Coastal BJJ I was treated as if I had been their for years. The other students went out of their way to help develop my techniques.
Your first muay thai class at Coastal Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Nervous about walking into a muay thai gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics on pads and bags — not fighting. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: shorts or athletic wear and a t-shirt; you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and hand wraps if you have them — many gyms lend gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves, wraps, a mouthguard, and shin guards. Sparring is optional and comes later, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
