From the reviews
As a recent transplant to Florida I was looking for a gym to train Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at so I did my research of the area. I am truly elated that I found Martin Academy. Sifu LaVonne, Coach Ted, Coach Bruce, and Coach Mike are all around amazing human beings.
Martin Academy is a very professional school for martial arts. I love training here! Sifu Lavonne Martin and the rest of the instructors are highly trained and respectful of their students. No matter your skill level, you will receive great coaching and attention from the instructors.
What an incredible experience!!!! Martin Academy has been my martial arts home now for 4 years. I love the variety of martial arts provided. What are you looking for: Personal/Self Defense, Boxing, Kickboxing, Grappling, Kung Fu/Trapping, Weapons Training. Super Clean Facility and a Great Family Atmosphere.
I personally have the opportunity to visit a lot of martial art schools around the United States due to my job. I see a lot of fly-by-night schools that pop up on this corner and that corner. A lot of them will use the illusion of being a “Pro Fighter” as grounds for teaching you self-defense.
Your first muay thai class at Martin Academy of Martial Arts
Nervous about walking into a muay thai gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics on pads and bags — not fighting. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: shorts or athletic wear and a t-shirt; you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and hand wraps if you have them — many gyms lend gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves, wraps, a mouthguard, and shin guards. Sparring is optional and comes later, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
