From the reviews
I’ve been training with South Coast Self Defense for a while now, and I’m extremely happy to be part of their program. When I was looking to enroll, I had the pleasure of speaking with David about the various classes his school offers.
Absolutely awesome!!! From the owner to the instructors all amazing!!!! my 5 year old grandson has been taking classes for two months now and absolutely loves it!!! building him with self-confidence, discipline, structure, ,and resilience!!!
The class I took today was for Women’s Self Defense in partnership with the local police department, and it was fantastic! The instructors were knowledgeable and considerate of the experiences of survivors and making sure everyone felt comfortable. I left the class feeling informed, empowered, and prepared.
I’ve been bringing my 4 year old here for about a month and I can already see a difference! She listens more in class vs running around silly the whole time. Coach Dave and Coach Bobby are literal angels with the kids. They’re so patient but also stern in a way that makes me feel comfortable.
Your first muay thai class at South Coast Self Defense - Youth Martial Arts, Adult Krav Maga and Cardio Kickboxing
Nervous about walking into a muay thai gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics on pads and bags — not fighting. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: shorts or athletic wear and a t-shirt; you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and hand wraps if you have them — many gyms lend gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves, wraps, a mouthguard, and shin guards. Sparring is optional and comes later, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
