I cannot speak to the quality of the competitive martial arts training, as I have no background in it and my child is only 4 and just starting. Over the last few months I have witnessed a depth of character and class in these instructors that is hard to quantify. Mr. Wyatt, Mr. Freeman, and Mr.
My daughter, recently turned 6, is extremely strong willed, anxious and very imaginative; meaning she can be a handful! She really tests her instructor, Master Horton, but he remains patient with her. Both instructors in there (Master Horton & Master Diggs) are firm but not overbearing.
My daughter has been taking classes for almost a year and we both love it here. The instructors are all super patient with the students and very knowledgeable of their craft. They take the time to explain moves that may be challenging to students.
My friend recommended Tiger Academy because she saw such a difference in her daughter after she started the jujitsu classes. I signed up my sons for the self defense classes and they love them. Even when my youngest is called out on his bad behavior. They hold everyone accountable and work as a community.
Your first muay thai class at TIGER Academy of Martial Arts
Nervous about walking into a muay thai gym for the first time? Almost everyone is, and good coaches expect beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling the basics on pads and bags — not fighting. Rest whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: shorts or athletic wear and a t-shirt; you'll train barefoot on the mats. What to bring: water and hand wraps if you have them — many gyms lend gloves for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gloves, wraps, a mouthguard, and shin guards. Sparring is optional and comes later, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the coach. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
